Engineered Print Design

It’s the work we’re best known for. Marielena has engineered prints for 20 years, for fashion, swim, sleepwear, accessories, and home brands.

An all-over print tiles across the fabric and lands wherever the cutter’s knife falls. An engineered print is drawn for the pattern piece itself, so the flower sits on the hip, the stripe meets at the side seam, and the border runs along the hem.

What we engineer: Dresses, shirts, leggings, swimwear, sleepwear, bedding, towels, blankets, handbags and shower caps. If it’s cut from printed fabric, we can engineer the print for it.

Graded across every size: A print that looks right on a size S has to look right on an XL too. We grade the artwork with the pattern, so the placement holds from the smallest size to the largest. We’ll work from your existing patterns, or make, grade and digitize new ones for you.

Painted by hand or built in CAD: Start from your artwork or from scratch. We sketch, paint by hand and draw in CAD, depending on the look you want.

Mill-ready files: Every file comes with the repeat, color separations and placement marks your mill needs. Your factory prints it as delivered, without sending it back for fixes.

How it works:

  • Send us your patterns (or your tech pack) and any artwork or inspiration.
  • We design the print on the pattern pieces and send you a mockup on the garment.
  • We grade the print across your size range.
  • We deliver mill-ready files for production.

Questions

What’s the difference between an engineered print and an all-over print? An all-over print repeats across the whole fabric. An engineered print is designed for each pattern piece, so motifs land in exact spots on the finished product.

Can you work from our existing patterns? Yes. Send your patterns or tech pack. We can also make, grade and digitize new ones.

Do you grade the print across sizes? Yes. Every size gets its own placement, so the design holds from the smallest size to the largest.

What files do you deliver? Mill-ready artwork with repeats, color separations and placement marks. File formats: AI, PSD, TIFF

How long does a project take? Typical turnaround is around 1 to 3 weeks depending on the scope of project.
